Rafael Nadal (Manacor, 3 giugno 1986) è un tennista spagnolo. Detiene il primo posto della classifica ATP dal 18 agosto 2008. Nadal è nipote (di zio) dell'ex calciatore Miguel Angel Nadal e del suo attuale allenatore Toni Nadal. Quest'ultimo lo introdusse ad un corso di tennis quando Rafael aveva tre anni, ed è sin da allora il suo allenatore. Nadal avrebbe voluto giocare a calcio, ma quando vinse un torneo under 12 ad 8 anni mise da parte i propositi calcistici sebbene fosse ancora un promettente calciatore. Suo zio Toni migliorò lo stile di gioco del nipote nel corso degli anni e gli insegnò a giocare bene il rovescio bimane nonchè a potenziare il già forte gioco mancino.
Nadal lasciò Manacor a 14 anni per andare a Barcellona ad allenarsi ed esordì fra i professionisti a 14 anni e 7 mesi nei tornei satellite. A settembre 2001 ottenne i primi punti e a fine anno fu n° 818 al mondo. Il primo match ATP lo vinse nell'aprile 2002 a Maiorca contro Ramon Delgado, diventando il 9° Under 16 a vincere un match nell'era Open.
